Job Description: Business Manager (Part-time to full-time, IC or W-2)

About us

Milagen is a privately held, late-stage, pre-commercial diagnostic company focused on commercializing easy-to-use, non-invasive, in vitro diagnostic products designed to fulfill unmet clinical needs in the prevention, detection, diagnosis, and management of major cancers. Milagen is in the final preparatory steps to seek regulatory validation of its Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) Laboratory and offer its products and testing services for early recurrence monitoring for breast and for colon cancer.


  • Accounting and Finance
    1. Perform daily accounting entries into QuickBooks.  Maintain the company bank accounts including reconciling monthly bank statements.  Maintain accounts receivable and accounts payable.  
    2. Finance: pay bills, managing credit card, reconciling, reimbursements & expense reports, managing SAFE investments, depositing checks, managing budgets, and hiring plans.
  • Contract Management
    1. Overseeing grant program including budget, timesheets, invoicing, reimbursements, etc.
    2. Maintenance and submission of grant reports to grant authorities for financial reimbursement associated with the grant work. 
    3. Monitor agreements with UCSD.
  • IT
    1. Administer and maintain IT functions for the company including web sites, e-mail, shared file system, etc.  
  • Operations
    1. Receiving and routing mail.
    2. Managing Executive assignment tracker and weekly highlights report.
    3. Designing new lab space, coordinate move with vendors and lab personnel.
    4. Assist in general operational matters.
    5. Facilities build out and expansions management.  
  • Human Capital
    1. Recruiting, Hiring, onboarding – as per strategic plan or company needs.
    2. Maintain payroll and benefit program for the company through a third-party HR Firm.
    3. Employee handbook overhaul and HR audit (if needed).
  • Varia and Strategic
    1. Prepare and maintain financial models and business plans.
    2. Assist/manage due diligence process for Funding and M&A Purposes.
    3. Help develop strategic alliances with potential customers and collaborators.
    4. Various projects as defined by the CEO which may change from time to time.
  • Time Commitment
    1. Minimum of 20-30 hours per week initially.
    2. Can be adjusted by Consultant or Company as needed.
  • Compensation (negotiable)
    1. W-2 – $45 per hour, benefits included if 30hrs/wk commitment
    2. 1099 – $55 per hour
    3. Stock Options Package
